Oscillatory wave immunity test
1. Overview
Oscillatory waves appear as:
a) non-repetitive damped oscillatory transients (ringing waves) occurring in low-voltage power lines, control lines and signal lines of public and non-public networks;
b) Repeated damped oscillatory waves in power, control and signal cables installed in high voltage and medium (HV/MV) substations.
The oscillatory transient wave of a single shock is called a ring wave, and the pulse train of a damped oscillatory transient is called a damped oscillatory wave.
The ringing wave is caused by the switching of the control line of the power box or the lightning strike, and appears on the terminals of the equipment.
Damped oscillatory waves appearing on equipment terminals are mainly caused by reignition of switching operations in power plants, high and medium voltage substations and heavy industrial equipment.
Ringing waves are reproducible transients that occur on high or medium voltage power, control, and signal lines.
Damped oscillatory waves are representative of HV and MV substations, especially with regard to HV busbar switch operation, as well as background disturbances in plants. The opening and closing operation of the knife switch in the substation will produce a very steep (wave front time of tens of ns) transient voltage wave.
Due to the mismatch of characteristic impedance in the high voltage circuit, the voltage wave will have reflection. According to this point of view, the characteristics of the transient voltage and current in the high-voltage bus are determined by the line length and propagation time to determine the fundamental frequency. The outdoor substation is affected by the above parameters and the length of the busbar (the length of the busbar can range from tens of meters to hundreds of meters, such as a typical value of 400 meters), and the oscillation frequency ranges from about 100kHz to several megahertz. In this regard, 1MHz oscillation Frequency can represent most cases. But for large-scale high-voltage substations, 100kHz is considered more appropriate.
